The ads in 2024 are getting more and more artistic. First, we saw the Damien Chazelle-directed video featuring Lily Collins for Maison Perrier. Now it’s time for something even more special. The new Wes Anderson ad for Montblanc is a beautiful homage to 100 years of the German brand’s Meisterstück fountain pen. Here it is.
Wes Anderson ad for Montblanc features Rupert Friend and Jason Schwartzman
Not only did Anderson direct the ad, but he acted in it himself. Montblanc has managed to assemble the all-star crew that included actors Rupert Friend and Jason Schwartzman (who both are longtime Anderson’s collaborators). Linus Sandgren (famous for La La Land and Saltburn) was responsible for cinematography. Also, Roman Coppola (who’s the cousin of Jason Schwartzman and Nicolas Cage and brother of Sofia Coppola) took over the co-production here. That’s a recipe for success.
We got a cinematic feast taking us to the heights of Mont Blanc mountain in the French Alps. Shot in a trademark Wes Anderson visual style, this is a lighthearted and slightly goofy excursion into the history of the famous Montblanc pen.
The short film invites us to visit the “Headquarters of Inspired Writing.” The sets are lovingly designed to incorporate the feats of the traditional wooden alpine lodges. Backgrounds are inspired by iconic Europe-based Wes Anderson productions like “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “French Dispatch.”
The actors and the director have witty interactions reminiscing about the pens and their purpose. Also, Wes Anderson announces his limited-edition “Scribble” pen he designed himself (to which Rupert Friend says “I prefer the original, the Meisterstück”). Then we’re treated to delicious cinematography of the three men sitting in the Alps-overlooking writing room assembled by height.
“This wasn’t even made for Montblanc, this is just how Wes Anderson lives in real life,” says one YouTube comment and we can’t agree more.

Apart from Wes Anderson ad, Montblanc kicked off a pompous Gala in LA
Berlin-founded luxury goods brand Montblanc knows how to throw an event. The company chose The Paramour Estate in LA’s Silver Lake to gather a plethora of stars. The guest list included Rupert Friend, Jason Schwartzman, Maude Apatow, Waris Ahluwalia, and Lee Jinuk who participated in a video and “100 years of Meisterstück.”
Also, celebrities like John Legend, Emma Roberts, Callum Turner, Zinedine Zidane, and Feng Tang made an appearance to celebrate the occasion.
