Damien Chazelle Directs a Lily Collins Ad for Maison Perrier

There are ordinary commercials. And then there are commercials as an art form. The latest Lily Collins ad for the French sparkling water brand Maison Perrier is the latter. A short film is directed by Damien Chazelle, an Academy Award-winning director behind Whiplash, La La Land, and Babylon. The video is a joy to watch. See it for yourself.

Exquisite visual experience in Lily Collins Ad

The new Maison Perrier campaign features Lily Collins as a protagonist. The location for this movement-filled short is a spectacular historic mansion somewhere in the French countryside. It seems that Collins fully embraced France as her second home after starring in a record-breaking Netflix folie “Emily in Paris.”

But here she has a chance to partner with one of the Hollywood cinema visionaries behind the camera. this Lily Collins ad is directed by American filmmaker Damien Chazelle in his trademark colorful and airy style. The shots are vivid and visually rich, the music is composed by Chazelle’s longtime collaborator Justin Hurwitz (who’s behind tear-inducing tunes of “La La Land”), and Linus Sandgren was responsible for cinematography.

Lily Collins’s character swirls through the mansion while the young man chases her around. She wears several dresses, sips several Maison Perriers, and stylishly leaves on a motorbike. It’s an easy watch and a very lighthearted one too.

Ogilvy Paris is behind this Lilly Allen ad and the commercial is produced by LA/PAC and Superprime Films.

The rise of artistic advertising

We love it when the brands seek accomplished moviemakers to bring a creative twist to their campaigns. These commercials have a special place in the advertising pantheon serving as the closest the ads get to an art form.

Some of the best examples include an epic 7-minute “Life is the Greatest Odyssey” for Hennessy also directed by Damien Chazelle:

And let’s not forget that the “The Grand Budapest Hotel” director Wes Anderson made this amazing artistic ad for Stella Artois in 2010:

There’s even a David Lynch-directed commercial for Playstation serving trademark creeping aesthetics:
