Tech companies often struggle with crafting good ads. Being a B2B software just doesn’t resonate with customers in the same way as fast food or sneakers. But this new Jira ad featuring Silicon Valley actor Zach Woods raises the bar of what a commercial for soft can be. And it’s hilarious too.
Jira ad that’s actually funny
Project management doesn’t sound that sexy. Bug tracking and agile aren’t the most exciting things in the world. But a creative approach can do marketing magic. That’s the case with the brand-new Jira ad. The Atlassian-owned product went comedy mode with a commercial featuring Zach Woods.
Woods, who’s known for poignant comedic roles in some of the most iconic shows like The Office, Silicon Valley, and Veep, is all charisma in this 2-minute spot. He’s there to promote Jira, but it seems that Zach didn’t read the contract Atlassian has provided. Anyway, the actor goes on to present various features of Jira humorously.
Our favorite part of the video is when Woods presents a project he started in Jira called “F You Money” and says “F is short for *expletive* and “You” is not abbreviated.” Wow, now that’s some bold software ad copywriting. If only every B2B company did their marketing as creatively as Atlassian.
If we look at this Jira ad closer, we will see a masterfully executed advertising where the complex product is presented in a simple and accessible way.
“Yes, project management might be overwhelming at times. But Jira makes it simple and fun,” that’s the main message here. And this approach works.

Software companies turn to high-budget advertising
The bombastic, celebrity-filled advertising isn’t only reserved for car commercials and beer ads anymore. Software companies are actively getting into the marketing field by launching high-budget campaigns with well-known faces and awesome copywriting.
Apart from this Jira ad with Zach Woods, we’ve recently seen a string of other memorable celebrity commercials. Like the Salesforce campaign featuring Matthew McConaughey where he plays a data sheriff:
In April, we’ve also seen an epic Workday (a financial and HR platform) commercial with Gwen Stefani, Travis Barker, and Billy Idol:
