The new video for Nationwide marks yet another entry into Peyton Manning commercials lore. The legendary football quarterback engages in funny wordplay and paints to promote the Nationwide financial services. We thought it would be nice to make a list of the best Peyton Manning commercials to celebrate the start of the NFL season. So here they are.
Nationwide is So Much More – Paintin’ Manning
Why: it’s not often that you see the NFL star actually act in a commercial. Well, Nationwide gave us punny Peyton Manning with this one. Entitled “Paintin’ Manning,” the video shows “the Sheriff” with a brush contemplating about the ambiguity of things.
“Peyton Manning is more than a quarterback, he’s also Paintin’ Manning.” This is the latest of the Peyton Manning commercials released by Nationwide to celebrate the NFL kickoff game. The star shows some good comedic acting in this one.
“I’m good at reading a teleprompter. I can memorize a few lines. I can memorize “Nationwide is on your side.” It’s equivalent to memorizing some plays, but by no means do I think I’m an actor,” modestly commented Manning in the fresh Hollywood Reporter interview.
United Way – SNL
Why: okay, this is not particularly among the Peyton Manning commercials. However, it’s still a good piece of pop culture to remember when it comes to the quarterback’s commitment to nailing the roles he stars in.
“Dude Peyton’s delivery and timing is priceless. Truly a funny guy,” commented a YouTube user by the name of @wacokid30 and we can’t agree more.
Songversation with Peyton & Brad – Nationwide
Why: the signing exchange of puny lines sounds good on paper but it takes comedic timing and skill to do them properly. Peyton Manning and Brad Paisley do a fantastic job nailing the concept starting from the innocent Nationwide promotional stuff and ending with personal insults like “not sure I like your head.” This is a golden fund entry among the Peyton Manning commercials.
Football OR Soccer – Peyton Manning vs. David Beckham
Why: hardly anything in sports marketing is more entertaining than watching two titans argue about the proper name for the game. Frito-Lay employed Peyton Manning and David Beckham to engage in a friendly banter about the correct way to call the football-soccer. Friendship won in the end. And we won with it.
Chicken Parm Jingle – Nationwide
Why: not everyone does the jingles like Peyton Manning does the jingles. This Nationwide ad proves that once again. From the “that’s a first-rate queso dip” to “I like it,” the Sherrif shows how it’s done. And how can we forget about the “chicken parm you taste so good.” That’s NFL advertising gold.
