How Shopping Malls Use Digital Signage: 5 Examples

Shopping mall digital signage can be truly impressive. The large stores are perfect for showcasing the top screen solutions. And that’s exactly what happens. From mega video walls to gigantic LED screens, here are the best shopping mall digital signage examples to get inspired and mesmerized.

1. The Ultimate Display of the American Dream shopping mall

Why: some screens are harder to ignore than others. With an 18,000-square-foot area and 180 degrees of visibility, SNA-supplied mega LED in the American Dream shopping mall is one of those. It’s not a coincidence that such a bombastic outdoor screen is found here. Located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, American Dream is officially the second-largest mall in the United States (only the Mall of America is bigger). So gigantic retail needs gigantic digital billboards

Talking about stats, the LED features a 12mm pixel pitch and 53.5 million total pixels. The positioning is strategic here, the display is set above one of the busiest intersections in the country making it visible from afar. It’s also one of the many shopping mall digital signage deployments at American Dream.

“With almost 4,000 sq metres of interior and exterior LED/LCD signage – providing great experiences, wayfinding, messaging, and revenue-generating advertising opportunities – American Dream offers one of the most dramatic takeover moments the digital signage industry has produced in this kind of venue,” explained Brian Williamson, director at Infuse Digital, which manages the digital network at American Dream.

2. The largest microLED screen in Latin America

Why: going with a wow factor is a good way to increase the foot traffic at your shopping mall. Parque de Colina in Bogota, Colombia did that by collaborating with Samsung on installing the largest microLED screen in Latin America. And this screen solution is quite familiar to the readers of Kitcast Blog.

We’re talking about The Wall. This year we wrote about this spectacular LED screen in our recaps from ISE 2024 and InfoComm 2024 where Samsung presented it on the show floor. Parque de Colina deployment shows how eye-catching digital signage can be used in a shopping mall setting.

25 panels comprise The Wall microLED with a weight of 280kg and 172 inches diagonally, or 4m x 2.3m in size.

“The potential of The Wall transforms the existing concept of the LED display into a display that goes beyond anything else available on the market today. The Wall allows you to project in a surprising way, with the best image quality and clear colours, on a large screen like no other, making the promotion possibilities endless and its potential unlimited,” said Camilo Romero, head of product marketing and presales for ECB SM at Samsung Colombia.

3. Necsum Trison’s installation at Max Centre

Why: one of the most impressive shopping mall digital signage examples comes from the city of Bilbao in Spain. Necsum Trison has installed a 17-meter-high “totem” in the middle of the Max Center shopping mall. More than 25 million pixels ensured a mesmerizing presentation that combined famous art (such as Michelangelo’s David) with interactive visuals.

Such a spectacular use of displays in retail space didn’t go unnoticed. The installation won a DailyDOOH Gala Award, a global Digital Signage Award, and a Muse Creative award.

“Impressive digital art contents, highlighting the digital architecture in which the well known titanium slats of the Guggenheim museum are made and undone to cover the skin of the totem; or the sophisticated Gold Waterfall that shocks those present with its impressive 3-dimensional fall. One of the funniest and most creative moments is starred by an amazing 17-meter-high David by Michelangelo, in which this imposing digital sculpture comes to life to surprise and interact with the visitors of the center,” read the official press release.

4. Nike’s House of Innovation

Why: digital signage is the main star of Nike’s interactive House of Innovation store concept. While it’s not a shopping mall in a general sense, this concept shows how screens can be used in retail spaces to boost immersion and provide a more personalized experience. Nike has created a unique blend of physical and digital with its House of Innovation brick-and-mortar idea and it’s something all shopping malls can learn from.

These stores are filled with screens of all sizes that facilitate the dive into the world of Nike’s branding. From holographic elements to the superb 9×7.8mm indoor transparent LED display for the Nike Flagship store in Shanghai, the company makes sure you’re going out of their stores awe-inspired.

5. Mall of Dilmunia 8K LED canopy in Bahrain

Why: there are shopping mall digital signage that serves a communication purpose or a wayfinding goal. But there are also examples of artistic screen deployments that push the limits of what can be done in retail stores with the help of technology. Just like the breathtaking 8K LED canopy screen at the Mall of Dimunia in Bahrain aka the largest LED 8K screen in the Middle East.

The mall fully utilizes the visual power of digital signage to create a seamless experience for guests.

Apart from this ceiling screen extravaganza, the Mall of Dimunia has a display at the exterior façade, tickets area, elevators, square area, the ice rink, and aquarium. It’s a great example of an integrated digital signage network on a large scale.
