Netflix announced its ending support for the old Apple TVs
Recently, Netflix sent an email to its customers that it is dropping support for 2nd and 3rd-generation Apple TVs. The company promised to “maintain the best possible Netflix experience,” but it’s evident that the streaming giant is disinterested in maintaining its app on these devices.
But we’re talking about 2010 and 2012-released devices here. Those old Apple TVs were the first to support AirPlay and came with 720p (2010 device) and 1080p (2012 device) streaming capabilities. In other words, in 2024 both are obsolete to the max.
However, their tech specs allowed for an okay Netflix streaming experience so it’s not completely clear why the streaming company decided to drop the support. One of the possible reasons is the codec compatibility. Another is reducing the waste of internal resources on supporting something that’s basically a tech relic.
