Banks on TikTok? The financial institutions aren’t the first in a line of businesses you think would use this social media. Nevertheless, the social media presence helps grow your company and broadens the Gen Z reach. Banks on TikTok post educational content, interact with the audience, have fun, and go along with the trends. Here are the top TikTok bank accounts to follow in 2024.
1. Capital One
Follower count: 56.1K
Why: you won’t find controversy on Capital One’s account. It is focused on consistently producing high-quality inspirational content that motivates you to take a trip to a tropical paradise, open a savings account, take advantage of the premium airport lounge services, or book a hotel with a superb view of New York City. And it’s a great strategy for a TikTok bank account.
Also, Capital One is among the biggest banks in the US, so they can easily afford to get Charles Barkley in a promotional campaign or make a video with Tom Wilson. While it doesn’t necessarily play by the TikTok FYP rules, Capital One is still one of the most active banks on TikTok and we have to respect that by including them on our list.
2. Citizens Bank
Follower count: 7K
Why: Citizens Bank chose a very focused approach for their TikTok account. The target here is the college students and a broader Gen Z public. While other banks usually post general content they also use for Facebook and Instagram, Citizens does a specialized TikTok.
And we’re here to applaud that. You’ve got various interviews, financial advice, money-saving tips, and budgeting basics. While it may come off as a bit too serious for TikTok, the content here is mostly for sparking interest in Citizens Bank services.
3. SoFi
Follower count: 161.4K
Why: not every bank can say they are an official bank of the NBA. SoFi can and they fully profit from that fact on their TikTok account. But it’s much more than an outlet to publish high-budgeted promotional campaigns featuring NBA top stars. SoFi is among the top banks on TikTok for their devotion to quality content and delivering some of the best financial advice on this social media platform.
Also, TikTok is where SoFi publishes edited bits from their YouTube series Richer Lives. While often the content produced for other platforms doesn’t quite work in the rapid TikTok setting, in this case, the videos look very organic and gather thousands of views and dozens of comments. And then there’s a diversity of topics SoFi covers on their account. Divorce payments, paying off car loans, financial literacy, online banking, and much more.
4. Barclays UK
Follower count: 38.9K
Why: you can see that Barclays is serious about their TikTok presence. One of the UK’s largest banks produces mostly scripted videos, employs influencers as spokespersons, and gives us a peak at the life inside their office. Their account may be too polished for a chaotic TikTok crowd, but we’re talking about a multibillion-dollar financial institution here with a reputation on the line. In that regard, the content they publish is perfectly aligned with their general marketing strategy and it looks great.
And then there are cool behind-the-scenes videos from football stadiums and tennis pitches too showing the important presence of Barclays in the world of sports.
5. Scotiabank
Why: people are the centerpiece of Scotiabank’s vibrant TikTok account and it’s a great strategy for banks on TikTok. Whether it’s the influencers who announce cool features of Scotiabank’s app, or the ordinary people on the street answering questions about teaching kids financial literacy, the human element makes Scotiabank’s account alive. Also, they have really creative ways to explain complex financial questions simply. Like this video about the tax filing, for instance.
One thing about their account is that it feels very controlled and organized. Maybe too organized for TikTok. But again, banks on TikTok have to be very thoughtful about what they post and how it will be perceived by the audience so being careful is always good.
6. Banks on TikTok – American Express
Follower count: 11.1K
Why: casually captioning the video featuring Billie Eilish with “Congrats to our friend” shows the influence American Express has in the entertainment industry. And it’s great for TikTok. The other video features another friend; this time it’s Dua Lipa. But Amex is good at diversifying content and it’s mostly inspirational and travel-related. You’ve got Coachella tours, splendid hotel highlights, excursions through the LA neighborhoods, and Mexican travel stories. As a TikTok content, it works perfectly.
