Apple AI – 3 Things to Expect From iOS 18

With all the buzz surrounding artificial intelligence and Google and OpenAI presenting new and new solutions monthly, Apple AI hasn’t yet been unveiled. But everyone is sure of one thing. WWDC 2024 in June will introduce the AI capabilities of iOS 18.

But what exactly has Apple been cooking in the AI department and what features can we expect? Here are 3 Apple AI novelties that are rumored to appear.

Apple AI

AI-generated Apple Music playlists

Yep, your playlist is getting an artificial intelligence makeover. Macrumors has written about this Apple AI feature of iOS 18 and we’re almost sure it’s going to happen. We expect a machine learning-driven approach when Apple Music will analyze what you’re listening to and make a playlist accordingly.

Is it what Apple Music users want? Maybe. But there’s a Reddit thread where people express their wishes regarding the app. Currently, the top comments ask Apple to change the search algorithm to use fuzzy logic instead of the exact match. We’re sure AI can help with that too.

Apple AI: Generative features for Pages and Keynote

With the advent of ChatGPT generative text solutions, it’s a matter of time before Apple’s AI strategy arms Pages and Keynote with the same capabilities. Well, it seems iOS 18 brings that change.

The updated versions of the apps will reportedly have better text-generating instruments. Keynote will get a slide deck generation feature. What remains unknown is what AI model Apple will use for this. This month the company renewed the talks with ChatGPT creator OpenAI.

But then also Apple has just released its very own language model called OpenELM hinting at a desire to keep its AI capabilities in-house rather than opting for outside help.

Siri gets beefier with AI

Siri and Apple AI

Siri was the ultimate virtual helper when it was first released in 2011. In 2024, after numerous updates, its capabilities are still pretty impressive. But it hasn’t yet felt the AI revolution.

Apple plans to change that with iOS 18. As a part of “the biggest software update ever” (that’s what many industry insiders call the upcoming event), Siri might finally enter the realm of generative AI. What remains unclear is how this will work.

9to5Mac suggested that the possible AI-enhanced Siri will use “generative AI capabilities to make sense of our requests.” Essentially, that means that Apple wants its assistant to become more intelligent.

The challenge for the company comes in the storage and processing of data. Apple would prefer on-device Siri which doesn’t use any external services to function and doesn’t resort to the cloud to store information. We’ll see how it is executed in iOS 18.
