What To Expect From Siri AI?

Siri AI is coming soon. Apple is trying hard to keep up with OpenAI and Google to lead the artificial intelligence race. But does it have the aces up its sleeve? Or its chatbot will essentially be the Siri and ChatGPT integration? Let’s review what’s known about Siri AI.

Apple and OpenAI are partnering for better Siri AI

What To Expect From Siri AI? - 1

It was reported, that Apple had sealed a deal with OpenAI at the beginning of May. Thus, we may expect ChatGPT generative artificial intelligence capabilities to the iOS 18. It’s important for two reasons.

First of all, the partnership means that Apple doesn’t have the necessary means to bring AI to reality on its devices without external help.

Secondly, it signifies the doubling down on AI from Apple. The company hasn’t had its “wow” moment yet when it comes to artificial intelligence. It hasn’t still presented something that can directly cut the domination of OpenAI and Google at that point.

It is believed that Apple will present both the iOS 18 and the updated Siri at Worldwide Developers Conference (June, 10). The event will come after May’s “Let Loose” where new iPad Air and iPad Pro were unveiled.

What to expect from AI-powered Siri?

Although nothing was directly announced by Apple, the tech insiders have speculated on features that are going to be released with Siri AI.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the biggest change to Siri comes with introducing the so-called “proactive intelligence” approach.

What it means in practice is Siri which has a conversation with you. Not the to-do lists or setting alarms, but actively listening and engaging in a way that feels real. Much like the recently unveiled Chat GPT 4.0 but in Apple’s clothes. In other words, Siri AI finally gets a voice you can talk to and not merely give orders to.

Other Siri AI features that are planned to be unveiled at WWDC24 are:

– notifications auto-summarizing tool

– voice transcription and article summarization

– calendar enhancements

– app organization features

Challenges for Apple Siri in the AI era

The main challenge comes from the way Apple did things from the very inception of Siri. The company chose the on-device approach without outsourcing any data to third-party actors. This was the main proof of Apple’s devotion to preserving the users’ privacy and protecting them from leaks and misdeeds.

However, on-device can only work efficiently when you have all the technology to run it smoothly. It seems that AI is one of the domains where Apple isn’t as confident as, say, phones or tablets.

The pressure from OpenAI and Google on the artificial intelligence front makes Apple reconsider its ways. The rumored partnership with Sam Altman-led OpenAI is an indication of this. But maybe these are just rumors and Apple has been cooking something special for Siri AI and its artificial intelligence capabilities in general.

WWDC24 is coming and we’ll finally find out.
